From now on, at the beginning of each month, I’ll share my cover of the month highlighting an artist — mostly emerging, and share some info about him. I’m sure it will inspire you, no matter where you are in your journey towards success, and that it will also motivate you to keep working hard!

And I’m happy to begin this monthly event with Leroy Sanchez and his cover of Mercy of Shawn Mendes. This isn’t his most recent cover but one of my favourite 🙂 You can listen to it right now!

Who’s Leroy Sanchez?

You may know him already as he is a YouTube star. Leroy Bejarano Sánchez is a Spanish young man who was born on 1st September 1991. He comes from a modest family from nothern Spain: his father is a carpenter and his mother is a housewife.

Leroy knew at a very young age that he wanted to work in the music industry. He considers music as the best way to express himself. At the age of 5 or 6 years old, he told his sister that he wanted to be a successful singer and she didn’t believe it could happen.

Despite that, he didn’t give up on his dream. He took every opportunity to improve and showcase his talent. He taught himself to play guitar and piano by watching YouTube tutorials. He started to write songs and learned English knowing that it would help him with his career — and it did! He also took part in recitals, did several gigs with friends, he even took part in a reality show he didn’t win, etc.

Leroy’s debut in the music industry

Ten years ago, Leroy created his YouTube channel and started to post videos just for pleasure. He got noticed by medias in Spain and became increasingly popular in his country. He has now more than 2 million subscribers.

But his career really took a turn when he got a phone call from Jim Josin — an American record producer and business man who produced songs for Beyoncé, Usher, Lil Wayne, T.I., Kelly Rowland and many more. Sanchez finally moved to the US in 2010 – 2011.

Shortly after his arrival in the US, Leroy worked for American Idol and collaborated with artists such as Haley Reinhart, James Durbin & Scotty McCreary.

Besides this, he kept working on his own music. In 2014, Leroy released two singles you can listen by clicking on titles: Little Dancer & By My Side. You can also listen to his most recent original (and beautiful) song: Nos Vemos. End of 2016, he was the supporting act of Boyce Avenue on their US Tour.

In January 2017, Leroy went on tour throughout Europe, USA and Canada. The Man of the Year tour started mid-January in London and ended in Boston earlier this month.

He is currently working on his debut album due to be released this year. We can say that he’s no longer a YouTuber but an emerging artist.

What do I say about him?

I think he’s a talented artist with a beautiful voice. He seems to be a friendly, humble and down-to-earth person. We can feel his passion and love for music. I truly appreciate that because music is an art before being a business.

Leroy proves that hard work, dedication, commitment, self-belief and patience can lead to success.

It’s only the beginning, though. I noticed that his covers have more success than his original songs. He has to keep working hard.
